Initiated by her observations of shadows in the earth and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months perfecting a technique to convey objects with two dimensions onto canvas. If the object is alive or perishable, such as humans and fruits that they transform into a picture of their own. Her ephemeral painterly style is obvious and the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's work is the photograph. Photographs and painting are connected to form a flat two-dimensional surface that is trompe-l'oeil. In certain places, the third dimensions can be seen, for example, near the eye or the hair. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painting into the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows them to interact within the world of their own. This eliminates the distinctions between painting, photography and installation.
